Area 5:
Essential Practices
Description
The purpose of Core Area 5 is to provide participants with introductory
knowledge and skills concerning communication and rehabilitation
practices. It is designed to include introductory information on
the basic principles of rehabilitation and essential knowledge about
disability issues.
This undergraduate program begins with a 15 unit certificate, builds
to a 33-unit certificate, with all units applicable to an Associate
of Science degree in Disability Service Management.
Potential
Participants
This program is designed for entry level rehabilitation and special
education personnel who will have direct contact with consumers
and who have limited or no formal training I direct services provision.

Opportunities
Participate
Based on program needs, training can be delivered I a variety
of formats. These include workshops, seminars, distance teaching,
individualized instruction, technical assistance, simulation and
train-the-trainers.

Services Specialist Certificate (6 units + 1st Aid/CPR)
Disability Professional Service Certificate
(15 units)
Disability
Services Management Certificate (33 units)
Current High School students and students with High School Diplomas
may be accepted into the programs.
Graduate
An additional 24-30 units of General Education courses are required
for an Associate degree in Health Science with an emphasis in
Development Disabilities. After completion of an Associate degree,
participants may apply for the Bachelor
in Vocational Education, which requires a total of 124 units.
