SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY offers a specialization within its M.S. DEGREE, C.O.R.E. accredited program in Rehabilitation Counseling. This specialization features several components designed to prepare practitioners to work effectively with deaf, late-deafened, and hard of hearing consumers in today's rapidly evolving and challenging rehabilitation settings. Program features include:

Practicum fieldwork and internship experiences with deaf, late deafened and hard-of-hearing consumers who experience difficulties such as learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, addiction, physical disabilities and chronic health conditions.

Field placements with the Department of Rehabilitation in California as well as other states, transition programs, Postsecondary Education Programs supported employment programs, programs for consumers with acquired brain injuries, and model high-tech, computer assisted learning centers.

Emphasis on cross-cultural counseling and case practices involving consumers from Asian, Pacific, African American, Native American and Latino cultures.

Seminar courses in grant proposal development, organization development, ergonomic adaptations, and consumer advocacy.

Seminars designed to develop strategies to collaborate in Rehabilitation Planning with deaf, late-deafened, and hard of hearing consumers, current trends in legislation and in the latest technological, assistive devices.

SDSU's RCD Program is in its tenth year of operation and is supported by a training grant from the Rehabilitation Services Administration. A limited number of $400 per month stipends as well as tuition and fee waivers will be made available to qualified applicants.

The Rehabilitation Counseling Programs at SDSU have been training individuals through federal support for 22 years and we are especially interested in those candidates who by personal example will, serve as strong role models of disabled, ethnic minority, and other groups of citizens who are currently underrepresented in this field.
