COURSE OVERVIEW
CATALOG DESCRIPTION
Process of curriculum change and improvement. Development and evaluation
of curricula in postsecondary education and selection of appropriate
teaching techniques to meet learning needs of students.
COURSE PURPOSE
This course examines issues in curriculum philosophy, conceptual frameworks,
design, implementation and evaluation. It is intended for instructors
and leaders who are either teaching and/or working in a postsecondary
setting or who are preparing to do so.
This course will address the following questions:

What is curriculum?

What influences curriculum?
-
What statement does the curriculum make about
the insititution's goals and objectives?
-
How does one's educational philosophy impact
curriculum?
-
How do the student's educational goals impact
curriculum?
-
What are the steps in developing a comprehensive
course syllabus?
-
When, where, why and who evaluates curriculum?
General education, multiculturalism, workforce education, training
programs, transitional education, honors programs and adult education
will be investigated in the course. Emphasis will be on course and
program development focused on educational goals and objectives.
